W is for Woodpecker Hi, I'm a Woodpecker. A Lesser Spotted one to be exact. And I'm the smallest and least common of the three woodpeckers that live in Britain. You may hear me foraging for insects, as I tap, tap, tap, the trunks of trees in the woods. And if you hear me, you might be able to see me, as I have a rather wonderful red crown on my head, which makes me a little easier to spot.
