Our Story

In 2014, with a firstborn on the way, a small self initiated project illustrating birds began. Having gathered a little bit of steam, several birds later, it grew into a modest collection of personal favourites. And there it ended.

For seven years they lay dormant, until the recent lockdown. Confined to our home, with no aeroplanes overhead and few cars on the street, the sound of bird song became more evident than ever. This magnificent new soundtrack to our home and garden was warmly embraced and inspired a curious revisiting of the flock.

Forty minutes later the project was resurrected. And having been encouraged to create the A-Z of birds by our children, it felt appropriate that the audience for these special characters should not exclude them. However, we also wanted them to appeal to adults – especially when you're putting them on beautifully painted Farrow & Ball walls. Therefore, we hope the muted colours and unique graphic shapes, will compliment your home and appeal to both large and small children!

Most of the birds are British natives, such as the Blue Tit and everyone's winter favourite, the Robin. But there are some birds that have played a special part in our story. Such as the Cardinal, a native of the US, who became a friendly face during our time living in New York. And the Fantail, a native New Zealander, who simply had to make an appearance, with half of the family being Kiwi.

We sincerely hope that these little characters will find a great place to perch in your home, just as they do in ours.
